Inclusion
Our inclusion Programme to ensure that specific provision is made for those pupils who have specific or general special educational needs or who encounters 'barriers to learning', that this provision is confidently delivered and these pupils are challenged to meet their full potential. A team of TA’s and LM’s work with teaching staff to achieve this.
St. Anthony’s School wishes to enhance and develop the lives of all its pupils in a truly Christian atmosphere and in full co-operation with parents.
For pupils with special educational needs or barriers to learning means that they follow a curriculum which is suited to their needs and that they are supported by the various pupil support systems in place within school, and external to school, to ensure that they reach their potential.
There is a need to maintain the progress of these pupils within school and provide extension activities both within school and via links with external agencies.
In this way the development of the whole person can be safeguarded and supported and the spiritual, moral, emotional, social and cultural needs of each pupil met.
The ethos of the school encourages and promotes high expectations and good relationships – good behaviour, courtesy, tolerance, respect for themselves and for others.
Provision for pupils will special educational needs is explained in more detail within the school’s SEN information. Pupils with barriers to learning can be identified in a variety of ways. Pupils are identified in accordance with Dfes and L A Guidelines.
We value to gifts and talents of all pupils. All teachers at St. Anthony’s have some responsibility for pupils special educational needs and pupils with barriers to learning since provision for every pupil is a matter for the school as a whole.
It is the school’s policy to strive continually to discover tried methods to satisfy the needs of pupils with special educational needs both within and outside the school. The pupils and staff of the school accept the policy of equal opportunities as set out by the school and the City of Sunderland.
Mrs M Burns, Deputy Head Teacher, Miss A Summerside (KS3) and Miss T Wilson (Senco) liaise with all staff providing pupil support. This includes working with Learning Mentors, the School Counsellor, Pastoral Leaders, Subject Leaders, members of S.L.T. and all external agencies to identify and monitor the progress of pupils with special educational needs.
We aim to ensure that all pupils follow an appropriate teaching and learning programme, supplemented by enrichment activities. |
