Specialist School Status

As a Technology College we hope to enhance the curriculum provision for all students and equip them for life in the 21st century. Our aim is to achieve the following in line with priorities:

Design and Technology

  • To increase the use of computer-aided design, control technology and computer-aided manufacture at KS3, and the provision of DT courses at KS4 and post-16.
  • To improve the quality of DT provision at KS3, and to increase the numbers of pupils studying DT at KS4 and post-16.
  • To improve the status of DT, the attainment of higher levels at KS3 and the number of passes and quality of examination results at KS4 and KS5 through the improved provision and development of the school’s industry and community links.

I.C.T.

  • To increase the use of Information Technology across the Curriculum as a teaching and learning tool and provide students with access to the school’s Intranet and Internet as valuable resources to support learning.
  • To improve the quality of ICT provision at KS3 and to increase the numbers of pupils studying ICT at KS4 and post-16.
  • To develop the school industry and community links and increase numbers achieving higher levels at the end of KS3 and improved grades at KS4 and post-16.

Maths

  • To enrich and extend the opportunities for the study of Mathematics, and raise standards across all key stages.
  • To create closer links in schemes of work with Science and Design Technology and with the world of Industry and Commerce.
  • To increase the use of ICT in the teaching and learning of Mathematics.

Science

  • To increase the input of Industry and new technologies into Science courses.
  • To increase the number of students studying Single/Dual Award Science at KS4 and post-16 Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  • To raise standards in Science, across all Key Stages.
