2011 Results

Congratulations to the whole school community.  St. Anthony's has achieved the best ever results at GCSE and A level.

A Level

At A level nearly half of all entries were graded A*/A or B and three quarters graded A*-C.  The pass rate was 99%.  Girls of all abilities from Y13 2011-2012 are beginning a huge range of subjects at thirty five different universities across the country.

At GCSE a third of girls achieved the English Baccalaureate ie. A*-C grades in English, Mathematics, two Sciences, a Modern Foreign Language and History or Geography.  A third of girls achieved 3 or more A*/A GCSE grades with 11 girls achieving 101 A* GCSE grades between them.  Girls across the ability range have shone with 96% of students achieving Level 2 (equivalent to GCSE) Literacy and Numeracy.

  • 85% of students achieved A*-C in GCSE English
  • 77% students achieved A*-C in GCSE Mathematics
  • 71% students achieved 2 or more A*-C in GCSE Science

The school is well placed to continue to build upon its tradition as a provider of high quality secondary education for girls within the Christian ethos.  The school is a High Performing Specialist School, with specialisms in Technology and Languages but strength across every curriculum area, outstanding pastoral care and outstanding extended curricular opportunities, educational visits etc.  The school is constantly developing with support from its local partners and as a member of the Leading Edge community, Specialist Schools and Academies Trust and Hexham and Newcastle R.C. Partnership.

Summary of 2010 Results

The whole school community celebrates the continued annual success of students of all abilities in external examinations. There were high quality passes at Advanced level (with 70% of all entries achieving the top A-C grade).

Staff and students are particularly pleased to note the outstanding success of Faye Maughan. Faye achieved 12 A* grades at GCSE in 2008 and 5 A* grades in A level Physics, Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Economics and General Studies this summer. She will be studying Economics at Newnham College Cambridge. Another outstanding success story is Sophie Quinn who will study Spanish at St. Anne’s College Oxford. In fact a third of our A level students achieved one or more A*/A grades, 44% of all grades were A*-B with a 100% pass rate in twenty four subjects, consequently the vast majority of students have been successful in achieving their university places.

The school continues to expand its post-16 offer and is delighted that a record number of students have met the entrance requirements for sixth form. We are also very proud of the sporting and musical success of the girls as well as their outstanding achievements in local and national competitions. Despite their busy lives students and staff still find the time to make a major contribution to charitable fund raising including supporting financially a school and orphanage in Swaziland, Southern Africa.

Great success occurred at GCSE with high quality grades achieved in all core subjects (English 82%, Mathematics 70%, RE 80%, Technology 80%, Science 81% and Modern Foreign Languages 62%). 67% of students obtained %A*-C incl. English and Mathematics) and 82% achieved 5 A*-C passes. There was a 100% pass A*-G pass rate in twenty-three GCSE subjects.

We thank all those who have supported us this year: parents, governors, the diocese and our trustees. We look forward to the completion of our £1m building project later this month and continued success in 2011.
