Year 12 Registration and Induction Day Arrangements 2008/9 As part of the School Councils of the Faith Schools working in partnership, the School Councils are organising a musical evening at St. Roberts of Newminster RC School on Thursday 3 April, starting at 7.00pm. 2007 St. Anthony's in the Financial Times Top 1000 Schools for A Level. Thank-you to all tutors and students for taking part in this whole schoo election! There is going to be a change to this year's Stepping Up programme. Year 10 students, Le Che Simmons and Kate McCallum, will represent the school at the Young People's Stakeholders' Conference in June. Future events include a Computer Games Workshop in January, a visit to The Deep Submarum, Hull, in March. Congratulations are given to all our students who did well in their GCSE; AS and A2 exams. Two cohorts of students will be taking part in a series of examinations in January. If any parents or carers would like to receive communications from school via their e:mail, please put the details in writing and send it to Mrs Dutton via your daughter's Form Tutor. You are also welcome to attend the support class offered by our Foreign Language Assistant on a Wednesday lunchtime 11.50 - 12.55. This is a fortnightly class and all pupils in years 10 and 11 are welcome to attend. In March 2008, a group of 40 Year 11 historians are going to Berlin for a six day visit. St. Anthony's Awarded Technology College Status - phase 3 20/12/2007. St. Anthonys receives "Outstanding" in the Denominational OFSTED Report 21/12/2007. Josie Barlow Year 9 pupil won National Competition. During the summer term we surveyed all students, parents and staff. Thank you for everyone who replied. An independent firm who undertook the statistical anlaysis has returned the summary analysis and over fifty pages of detailed analysis for each of the three surveys. All Year 9 History students visit Beamish Museum and undertake activities related to the suffragette and suggragist movement. October 2007 Year 13 French students visit Paris. OFSTED Inspection September 2007 September - Year 13 Geography students undertake a week of fieldwork on the Isle of Iran. September 2007 - Year 7 and Year 8 students take part in 'walk to school week'. Year 10 Geography students undertake field work at Malham. Year 12/13 Art students visit Barcelona. The government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ initiative requires schools to provide a ‘safe place to be’ for children from 8am to 6pm. This is especially important for younger secondary school children and those of working parents. In response St Anthony’s has designed a daily programme of activities which will be available to all students. A group of Year 10 students have started a new and exciting City and Guilds Salon Services Course at Hylton Red House School. The course takes place on Thursday evenings, 4.00 – 7.00 and is taught by a professional hair and beauty expert who is herself the owner of one of Sunderland’s most prestigious salons. The school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy during the 19th century and has a fundamental commitment to high quality girls’ education in a Christian environment. In 2004 the school celebrated it’s centenary as a secondary school with sixth form. Currently thirty three subjects are offered at advanced level.
