 Year 8 girls’ premier league football tournament

Congratulations to the year 8 girls’ football team who have recently won a premier league regional tournament held at SAFC’s Academy of Light.

 

The girls came top of their group scoring 23 goals in 5 matches and conceding only two. They also won both their semi-final and final 2-1 in very tight games.

The girls have since represented Sunderland in a regional tournament held at Aston Villa’s academy in Birmingham. The girls went all the way to the final and lost on penalties in the grand final, but as runners up qualified for the National Premier League tournament held at Ewood Park, home of Blackburn F.C on May 5th. Fantastic achievement girls, well done! At Blackburn the girls were presented with medals and trophies by the chief executive of the Premier League and all of the games were refereed by top flight referees such as Mark Halsey, Chris Foy and Alan Wiley.

The team were also recently crowned Tyne and Wear champions and the u13 11-a-side team are also top of the league with one game to go.

 

Swimming and Athletics news

 

Congratulations to Lucy Ellis in 8HD who has qualified for the National Schools’ Swimming Championships. The competition is set to be held in July at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield. Lucy qualified in the 1500m freestyle event, finishing the race in 18:33.30 seconds which was nearly 23 seconds faster than the national qualifying time of 18:56 seconds! This is a fantastic sporting achievement and we wish Lucy the best of luck at the championships in July. Well done Lucy!!

 

Another big well done deserves to go to Abigail Smith from 10AJ who has again qualified for the English Schools’ Athletics Championships. The championships will be held at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on the weekend of 9th-10th July. Abigail won her 100m hurdles race on route to qualifying, where she competed against athletes from Northumberland, Cumbria and Cleveland. She will now represent County Durham in the championships in July and will be competing against the best young athletes in the country. Well done Abigail!

 

4th March 2010 – Catholic Partnership Year 7 Netball Tournament

 

The Year 7 Netball team attended the Catholic Partnership Netball tournament on 4th March.

 

After winning all matches in their group the girls played English Martyrs in the final. The pupils came 2nd after a VERY close 8 minutes.

 

Also extra congratulations to Megan Quinn who was named as player of the tournament.

The following pupils from Year 7 and 8 took part in the Catholic Partnership Cross Country at English Martyrs, Hartlepool on Friday 12th March 2010.

Year 8 girls’ premier league football tournament

  

Congratulations to the year 8 girls’ football team who have recently won a premier league regional tournament held at SAFC’s Academy of Light.

 

The girls came top of their group scoring 23 goals in 5 matches and conceding only two. They also won both their semi-final and final 2-1 in very tight games.

 

 The girls will now go on to represent the North East at Aston Villa in Birmingham on 23rd March, and will be competing against school teams from all over the country. Well done girls!
