Uniform

UniformsThe school expects the parents to support the policy on school uniform, as we believe that wearing school uniform helps to create a feeling of unity among pupils and strengthens their sense of belonging to the community of the school.

The uniform for pupils at St. Anthony’s is as follows:

From September 2008

Skirts should be around knee length and should be neither tight fitting or with splits.  Garments made with stretchy material such as Lycra are prone to 'ride up' are therefore unsuitable. The waist line should not be folder over to make the length of the skirt shorter.
Blazer is to be worn to and from and around school.  It should not have writing on it.
Tights should be navy, without patterns.  Alternatively, plain navy or white ankle socks (not trainer socks) may be worn.
School Blouse is white, has long sleeves in winter (not ¾ length), with a reveres collar and it should be loose not fitted, with the bottom tucked into the waist of the skirt.
School Jumper is navy, with green, brown and white trim in winter.
Footwear consists of shoes (not boots which includes any type of boot masquerading as a school shoe; i.e. any shoe which comes near to the ankle is considered to be a boot).  These shoes must be black - single colour only and without adornments.  Narrow heels, backless and high heels are unsuitable as they infringe health and safety regulations.
Outdoor coats should be plain navy (or black if navy is not available); without any kind of logo and must be worn over the blazer.
Make-up and jewellery are not allowed.
Scarves and gloves - navy or black - plain colours only.  There is an official school scarf.
Hair must always be tied back using a plain navy (black is navy is unsuitable) hair accessory.  Dyed hair is unacceptable.
Schoolbag each girl must carry a schoolbag of sufficient size to hold files, planner, exercise and text books as well as stationery items which are needed every day in school.  The bag should be plain navy or black.

After Easter pupils may wear a Summer uniform of:

  • White short-sleeved revere, loose fitting open necked blouse worn with a blazer (optional sleeveless jumper).
  • A navy blue skirt - the skirt should be loose, comfortable and of an appropriate length.
  • White or navy ankle socks or tights.

Please note:

  • Short or tight skirts or skirts with slits are not appropriate for school wear.
  • Items of personal jewellery are not appropriate for school wear. They may constitute a safety hazard and there is a risk of them being lost or stolen. Pupils may wear a wrist watch and one fixed stud or sleepers in the lobe of each ear, where written permission exists.
  • Pupils are not allowed to wear any form of make-up.
  • In bad weather pupils may wear black boots to come to school, but must change to shoes for wear in school.
  • Trainers are not allowed for wear in school except for P.E. lessons. Mules/backless shoes are not appropriate for school wear. Trainer liners are not to be worn with school shoes.
  • Braided hair, hair extensions and inappropriate use of hair dye are not compatible with school uniform and not allowed in school.
  • All girls must have a bag large enough to carry books, packed lunches etc.
  • Planners, bottles of water etc. must not be carried in blazer pockets.

Dress Code - Sixth Form Students

The school expects sixth form students to adhere to the dress code. We believe it helps create a feeling of unity among students and strengthens their sense of belonging to the sixth form community. In many areas of employment a uniform or dress code is an asset to both the individual and the organisation. We have a similar policy for sixth form students.

  • A nave blue skirt - the skirt should be loose, comfortable and of an appropriate length.
  • A plain blue or white blouse.
  • A navy sweater, cardigan or sweat shirt.
  • Navy or beige tights.
  • Suitable black shoes.
  • Navy short coat or blazer.
  • Navy overcoat, if desired.

Please note:
* Mules/backless shoes or stilettos are not appropriate wear.
* Denim or leather garments are not acceptable.
