Enrichment

The enrichment programme, which takes place on Wednesday afternoons (periods 7 & 8) provides you with opportunities for developing a wide variety of skills, outside of the classroom.  Students who involve themselves in both their school and local community impress universities and employers, and the enrichment activities offered at St. Anthony’s facilitate this.  Opportunities offered include:

Work Experience
Students who wish to pursue careers in vocational professions (for example medicine, nursing, law and teaching) have the opportunity to engage in work experience on a weekly basis.

Community Sports Leader Level 1 Award
We are able to offer Sixth Form students this recognised leadership qualification which enables them to run group sessions for younger children.  Although this is a valuable qualification to anyone considering a career in sport, it is open to everyone.

Links with Primary Schools
There are opportunities for students to work with children in local primary schools in the areas of Foreign Languages and Technology.

Reading Challenge
Sixth Form students help younger students in the school to improve their reading skills.

AS Photography
A new course introduced in September 2011.  Students have the opportunity to develop their interest and skills in Photography while gaining an extra AS level.

Duke of Edinburgh Award
This involves four aspects: volunteering, developing a skill, a physical activity and completing an overnight expedition, to gain a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.

Music Events
The Choir support a number of school events, including the Christmas and Summer Concerts.

The Choir have undertaken Music Tours to Prague (2007), Dublin (2008), Cracow (2009), Rome (2010) and Paris, Chartres and Orleans (2011) as well as performing at the Sage, Gateshead and the Sunderland Empire Theatre and in 2012 Vienna (TBC).

The Sixth Form Council
In the course of Year 12, each form nominates two students to represent them on the council.  At the end of the year, the Head Girl and Deputy Head Girl are then elected – from amongst the council members.

There are regular meetings, where the council discuss various issues of Sixth Form life – one of the most important being the organisation of the Leavers’ Ball!!  They also raise funds for charity and hold various social events throughout the year.

Charity
The Sixth Form adopt a chosen charity, and come up with fun and unusual ways in which to fundraise for them every Christmas.  In the past, students have enjoyed visiting local children from underprivileged backgrounds, and presenting them with Christmas gifts.
